On Friday, May 30th, 2025 at 11.30 am we will have the last talk for this semester of the #NECSTFridayTalk series titled "A Year of NECSTLab: It always seems impossible until it is done"A Year of NECSTLab: It always seems impossible until it is done" at DEIB NECSTLab Meeting Room (Building 20) and on line by Zoom.
During this talk Marco Santambrogio, Full Professor at Politecnico di Milano, will take us on a journey through the past year of NECSTLab activities. From the NECST Group Conferences held in Boston and Chicago, we’ll explore the milestones, challenges, and transformative experiences that have defined an incredible year at NECSTLab.
At NECSTLab, we strongly believe that the close integration of research and education is essential to truly prepare our students for the challenges ahead. While often perceived as a dichotomy, we are convinced that research and teaching can—and must—be interwoven into a virtuous cycle. Research benefits from the fresh perspectives of students, while students gain invaluable experience by engaging in real-world research projects.
In particular, involving young students in research fosters creativity and fuels the brainstorming phase of any research endeavor. Free from the constraints of conventional frameworks, students are often unafraid to explore bold ideas, even at the risk of failure.
This willingness to experiment enriches the lab environment.
Conversely, from an educational standpoint, immersing students in real-world projects allows them to face genuine design and development challenges. Through guided mentorship, we employ a maieutic approach—helping them discover how to navigate and solve complex problems, preparing them not only academically but also professionally.

From the NECST Group Conferences held in Boston and Chicago, to the upcoming IPDPS conference in Milan during the first week of June, we’ll explore the milestones, challenges, and transformative experiences that have defined an incredible year at NECSTLab.

The NECSTLab is a DEIB laboratory, with different research lines on advanced topics in computing systems: from architectural characteristics, to hardware-software codesign methodologies, to security and dependability issues of complex system architectures.
Every week, the “NECSTFridayTalk” invites researchers, professionals or entrepreneurs to share their work experiences and projects they are implementing in the “Computing Systems”.
