On May 25th, 2022 at 3.15 pm, a new CommTech Talk will take place at 7.0.1 Room – Building 7.
SD-Fabric is an open-source project hosted by the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) that is building a next-generation data center network fabric entirely defined by software. We leverage the P4 language to program the data plane, while we use Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and cloud-native principles to realize the control plane. The result is an open platform with APIs that make it easier to control the forwarding behavior of programmable network elements such as switches and smartNICs. Furthermore, when coupled with modern cloud development practices for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), SD-Fabric enables unprecedented velocity in the development and delivery of features well beyond traditional fabrics.
In this talk, we will present the SD-Fabric project vision and architecture. We will also discuss how SD-Fabric is already deployed in production to support edge clouds and enterprise use cases for Industry 4.0 and private-5G, showing how it can be used to offload functions traditionally executed on CPUs, such as the 5G User Plane Function (UPF), and how it leverages the In-Band Network Telemetry (INT) standard to provide deep traffic observability, enabling more effective troubleshooting and closed-loop control. Finally, we will conclude by presenting opportunities for open-source collaboration.
CommTech Talks @ POLIMI are a series of seminars and panels organized weekly by the study program in Telecommunications Engineering and the master of science track in Internet Engineering of Politecnico di Milano for stimulating the networking between students and people from industry and research.
You can register by filling in the form.
The event will be held online by Webex
