Sommario
On February 22nd, 2022 at 3.00 pm Michele Mauri, DEIB PhD student, will hold an online seminar titled "Water, Energy, Food Nexus: a challenge for hydrology. Planning of river basin development within the nexus using a decision analytic framework" based on the IDEA LEAGUE autumn school Water, Energy, Food and Environment Nexus.
The Water-Energy-Food nexus is a framework for studying the interconnection and trade-offs between the resources water, energy, and food. Interconnections are relevant at different spatial scales, from global to local, and require several tools to be managed and resolved, from technological to normative. Researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders are involved in the management of the nexus, which is inherently a many-objective decision problem. The seminar will present first the nexus and how it was tackled in the program of the IDEA LEAGUE autumn school. Then, will be shown a framework for planning the infrastructure development in the rivers basin. The framework guarantees a continuous interaction process with stakeholders and experts while quantifying the nexus trade-offs and exploiting the potentiality of numerical optimization to derive development pathways that are as satisfactory and resilient as possible.
The IDEA LEAGUE is an alliance between five European universities that supports the creation of a platform for producing and sharing knowledge between researchers. For this autumn school, IDEA LEAGUE partnered with several universities from Africa which were involved in the organization, bringing a substantial contribution to the understanding of the Nexus thanks to their field competence.
The seminar will be online, open to the entire department. The link is available upon request via email.
