Optical Communications Laboratory - PoliCom Lab

Activities

PoliCom (Optical Communications Politecnico Milano) is a Laboratory at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, DEIB, working with researchers, PhD students and graduate students of the Department.
PoliCom Lab was created to consolidate, coordinate and promote the skills of the Department in the area of optical communications with a multidisciplinary approach.
PoliCom Lab was born on the continuity of CoreCom (Optical Communications Consortium between Politecnico di Milano and Pirelli Cavi e Sistemi that, according to plan, stopped its activities in 2008 after 13 years since its foundation, and from whom PoliCom inherited the equipment laboratory and the research staff).

The research activities of PoliCom Lab focuses on the development and testing of new solutions in the field of fiber optic systems for applications both in the transport and in the access networks, with particular attention to multiplexing techniques (in wavelength, polarization and mode) designed to increase the transmitted capacity. In addition, PoliCom Lab studies new optical fibers and their applications both in the field of communications and in sensing, with the development of the original fiber sensors for industrial applications.
