On May 1st, 2010, Alberto Dalla Mora and Federico Maggi have been awarded by the “Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Award” for the best PhD dissertations:

• Alberto Dalla Mora “Fast-Gated Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes and Applications”
• Federico Maggi “Integrated Detection of Anomalous Behavior of Computer Infrastructures”

The Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation, established in March 1992, makes high scientific and ethical demands for its awards. Prize winners not only should present original and of an outstanding quality works in the context of computer science and telecommunications, and in the field of sustainable development, but they also must prove that they are aware of the consequences of their work for man and his environment, and that they are ready to assume personal responsibility for what they are doing. These awards target the best PhD students chosen by each partner University and confirmed by the Board of the Foundation. As of today, the Foundation has 26 partner Universities in 15 countries, including the Politecnico di Milano. The abstracts of the dissertations of the two 2010 DEI winners are attached.
