Abstract
Alberto Gatto, DEIB research assistant at the PoliCom - Optical Communications Laboratory, took part in the research that led to the important discovery of the existence of "gravitational waves" imagined by Einstein.
Alberto, after graduation and Phd program at DEIB with Prof. Mario Martinelli, worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Virgo group of Paris for a year and a half, during which he studied the evolution of the current detection systems of the gravitational waves in preparation of the third generation of interferometric detectors.
An article about the sensational discovery has been published in Physical Review Letters:"Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger, Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 061102"
