The scientific area of Computer Science and Engineering at DEIB counts more than 80 faculty staff members (full professors, associate professors, assistant professors) and almost 240 temporary researchers, including PhD students, post-docs and research collaborators.
The vision of the research area pursues the strategic aim to conceive, favor, and support a new penetration wave of computer science and engineering in society, also carrying out research oriented towards concrete applications that allow the interdisciplinary development of innovative services and products. The researchers are engaged in numerous national and international research projects.
The Computer and Engineering area hosts 13 laboratories, with state of the art equipment to carry out research as well as teaching activities, where students doing their final thesis can work side-by-side with researchers. Their focus ranges from big data to artificial intelligence and robotics, from innovative interactive interfaces to bioinformatics and assistive technologies.
The Master in Computer Science and Engineering aims to train engineers that have a wide and deep cultural background, are able to develop and use methods and tools of computer science with an engineering approach, as well as deal with and develop a large spectrum of applications. Many opportunities are offered: students of the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering can be selected to participate in the MSc in Computer Science and Bioengineering University of Illinois at Chicago & Politecnico di Milano (UIC), and can participate in the two-year double degree programs of the EIT Digital Master School and related to Data Science, Human-Computer Intercation & Design and Fintech.
The PhD program in Information Technology (IT) is organized within the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB) and offers the opportunity to develop a PhD thesis in the research areas of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics, Systems and Control, Telecommunications. Computer Science and Engineering research area is devoted to teaching and research in various fields related to Advanced Software Architectures and Methodologies; Artificial Intelligence and Robotics; Data, Web, and Society; Information Systems and System Architectures.
