The DEIB Virtual Museum is online: www.historicalcollections.deib.polimi.it
The site was presented during the "STEM beyond borders and barriers" event, organized by the Politecnico di Milano Foundation, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, Micron and the Micron Foundation.
The virtual museum project was born from the synergy between school, university and business for the development and enhancement of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in secondary school.
The students of the Liceo Scientifico Banfi and IIIS Einstein of Vimercate, in a school-work alternation regime, studied, cataloged and described the historical material, thanks to the supervision of Prof. Fabio Schreiber and the support of many teachers and researchers of the DEIB. The result, a fascinating excursus into the history of information technology, electronics and telecommunications through the equipment kept at the Deib, but visible to a few, has made this heritage accessible to all.
The project was conceived and supported by the Micron Foundation and the Fondazione Politecnico, which have chosen to involve high schools to allow students to come into contact and learn more about university and business realities and deal with a world that will concern their future.
For the DEIB, an impact of the project is also constituted by the display of part of the historical objects in special showcases on the ground floor and on the first floor of Building 20.
