The paper "Hummingbird: Energy Efficient GPS Receiver for Small Satellites”, co-authored by Luca Mottola of NESLab at DEIB and colleagues at TU Delft (the Netherlands), has received the prestigious Best Paper Award at the 2020 ACM International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking (MOBICOM).
The paper is about an efficient localisation techniques for nano satellites, and includes a study on a real deployment of a nano satellite orbiting around the earth for three months. The conference is one of the two flagship events of ACM SigMobile. Luca Mottola and NESLab received the same award at the other flagship event of ACM SigMobile (MOBISYS) in 2016. This makes them the only European group that received Best Paper Awards in both flagship events of ACM SigMobile.
