The enormous growth of network traffic has lead to an increasing pressure on the long-haul optical links. The use of high-cardinality modulation formats coupled with the increase in the number of WDM channels has increased the significance of fiber nonlinear effects on the design of optical links and networks. Instead of focusing on the physics of these effects, this talk will be centered on their impact on a communication link, providing some simplified models for system design. Novel results will be presented on the impact of non-linear effects on probabilistically-shaped (PS) modulation formats and wide-band (high number of WDM channels) links.
Dario Pilori is a PhD candidate in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. His main research topic is Digital Signal Processing applied to fiber-optic communications systems. He got his Bachelor's and Master's degrees, both in Telecommunications Engineering, at Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
