Andrea Melloni was born in Milano, Italy, in 1963. He graduated in Electronic Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano in 1989. In 1989 he joined the Microwave group at the Electronic Department of the Politecnico di Milano as a PhD student. He received his PhD. in Electronic Engineering in 1992 and since then he is an Assistant Professor in the same Department. Since 1996 he is in charge of the course "Optical components and circuits" at the Politecnico di Milano. From 1989 to 1995 his field of research included the modeling and computer-aided design of microwave and millimiter-wave devices and numerical methods for electromagnetic (scattering problems). In 1995 he joined the Photonic group and since then his main activities are on high bit-rates communication systems, soliton transmission, non-linear optical fibers and waveguides, integrated optics and fiber optic sensors. He is one of the assistant at the Direction of CoreCom where he is responsible of the analysis, modeling, design and characterization of passive integrated optic components.
