Mara Tanelli was born in Lodi, Italy, in 1978.
She is currently an assistant professor of automatic control at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione of the Politecnico di Milano.
She obtained the Laurea degree in Computer Science Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 2003 and the Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2003. She received the PhD in Information Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2007, with a thesis on Active Braking Control Systems Design for Road Vehicles. During the PhD program, she was a visiting scholar at Imperial College London, where she worked under the supervision of Professor Alessandro Astolfi.
For her PhD Thesis she received the Dimitri N. Chorafas PhD Thesis Award for the best PhD Theses in “Systems Engineering and Information Technology” and the Claudio Maffezzoni PhD Thesis Award, second edition, for the best italian PhD Thesis among those which show original contributions in solving control problems via mathematical modelling and automatic control theory.
From April 2007 to March 2008 she was a research assistant at the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione of the Politecnico di Milano, and from April 2008 to December 2008 she was a research assistant at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione e Metodi Matematici of the Università degli Studi di Bergamo.
Her main research interests focus on active control systems design for ground vehicles, estimation and identification techniques with application to Automotive systems, Control systems design for agricultural tractors and identification and control for active energy management of Web Service systems.
She is author and co-author of more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 4 patents in these research areas.
She is Co-principal investigator of the GAME-IT project - Green Active Management of IT Systems - a two years grant funded by the Politecnico di Milano in 2009.
