Apolonia Pawlina obtained her Magister Engineer (MS) degree in Electronics in 1967 from the Technical University of Wroclaw in Poland, where she was teaching and researching in Computer Architectures for the next five years. In 1973 she enters the Space Telecommunication Research Center, CSTS, of CNR , Italian Research Council, at DEI, Politecnico di Milano, where she belongs till now (2004). Since 2002 CSTS becomes a part of IEIIT - Sezione di Milano. Main areas of her research activities along the years have been : (a) modelling of atmospheric precipitation interacting with millimetric radio waves, (b) processing of radiopropagation data received from satellites, radiometers and meteorological radars, (c) SW tools for automatic interpretation of radar images. She participated in several international satellite experiments aiming to acquire large data bases of propagation data for the design of advanced telecommunications systems. The satellite campaigns she worked for were: SIRIO (11/14GHz, in 1977-1984), ECS (11/14 GHz, 1985-1990), OLYMPUS (12/20/30GHz, 1990-1992) and ITALSAT (20/40/50 GHz, 1993 -2002). She was an active member of OPEX group (Olympus Propagation Experimenters) and acted as Coordinator and Editor of CEPIT - group of ITALSAT propagation experimenters.
