Urbanopoly, a new mobile game for the Android platform, which collects data on the cities of Milan and the Lombardy Region will be launched in a few days. The game was developed by DEI and Cefriel within the European project Planet Data.
The game, available on Google Play’s app store, is free and able to collect high-quality information about urban environments. This mobile app is currently available for players moving in Milan and the Lombardy Region, but other cities will be added soon. While playing, users are requested to provide valuable information about the urban environment they are moving in. The gameplay is aimed at trading venues and earning money. Those venues are real places around the player selected from OpenStreetMap, such as shops, restaurants, and monuments.
The application shows the leaderboard of the best players in the app and enables players to share their venues property on their Facebook wall, thus fostering a social dimension of the game. In fact, Urbanopoly incentivizes the competition among players and also stimulates their Facebook friends to join the competition.
