Students of the Computer Science and Engineering Degree Program at Politecnico di Milano stand out in "Imagine Cup" (http://www.imaginecup.com), the largest student technology competition in the world, organized by Microsoft.
Imagine Cup spread over a period of one year: it starts with national competitions and culminates in a World Cup final (which for the 2011 edition will be held in New York City, US, from July 8th to 13th 2011). The competition is in its ninth edition; last year the number of submissions was around 325 000 from over 120 countries worldwide. On June 9th 2011, the Italian finals of Imagine Cup were held in Bologna, and saw as winners:
- in the category "Game Design": the project "The Sleepy Works", with a team from the Politecnico di Milano composed by a Master student in the “Computer Science and Engineering” Program (Nicola Crovetti) and two Master students in “Design” Program (Luca Trinchero and Gianvito Toscano);
- in the category "Windows Phone 7": the project “InfoAgricolae”, with a multi-university team comprising a Bachelor student of the Computer Engineering Program of Politecnico di Milano (Andrea Minetti).
In addition, the "Team GEDI"
group, composed by two Master students in the “Computer Science and Engineering” Program of Politecnico di Milano (Matteo Valoriani
and Giulio Presazzi
) reached the third position in the category "Software design"
