Il prof. Giorgio Guariso ha condotto un'analisi sui benefici connessi all'utilizzo delle biciclette che ha stabilito che pedalare fa bene e fa risparmiare la città di Milano. Oggi solo 6 milanesi su cento si spostano utilizzando la bicicletta. Calcolando con modelli matematici e statistici la lunghezza media dei tragitti e gli effetti sulla salute, nonostante l'aumento di rischi legati alla maggiore inalazione di particolato, il vantaggio economico per la comunità è di 65 milioni.
