PoliCom (POLItecnico Optical Communications Milan) is a Centre of the Electronics and Information Dpt. operated by DEI and Fondazione Politecnico personals. PoliCom was born to coordinate and to promote the DEI competences in the Photonics area from and beyond the optical communications by means of an interdisciplinary and integrated approach.
PoliCom represents the CoreCom heritage, the Consortium for Photonics Switching and Optical processing that ceased its activities in the 2008.
PoliCom is structured in four main labs:
Optical Communications Systems Lab: to preside and to experiment solutions for the next-generation optical nets;
Integrated-Optics Lab: to develop novel concepts in the integrated-optics domains;
Fiber-Optic and Sensor Labs: to study novel fiber-optic and novel fiber-optic based sensors;
Optical and Electromagnetic technologies: to explore advanced materials as well as photonics and electro-magnetic devices.
PoliCom is prepared to face the novel challenges of the photonics: from the 100 Gb/s transmission to the WDM-PON networks; from the slow-wave technology to the plasmonics; from advanced fiber-optic sensor to novel concept in photovoltaic generation.
