The power of idea: an innovation success story
Auditorium - Via Pascoli 53, Milano
6 Dicembre 2011
In this lecture we will tell the true story of MEMS development at STMicroelectronics, as the pioneers remember it from the early time. It will regard both the technological challenge and the market exploitation. The presentation will finish with some vision on the future of this exploding market segment.
Bruno Murari was the Director of the “Castelletto” Research and Development laboratories of STMicroelectronics at Cornaredo, near Milan, Italy. In 1972 he became head of linear IC design and development, in 1981 director of the “Castelletto”site, with 850 designers and technologists working on Smart Power IC’s and MEMS plus a six inches pilot line. He has personally designed 10 integrated circuits and has supervised the design of more than 2000 others. A major contributor to ST’s leadership position in high power IC technology, Bruno Murari holds more than 80 patents concerning IC design and technology on Smart Power devices and MEMS. In October 1995 he received an Honorary degree in Information Science from the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice for his role in the development of Smart Power IC technologies. In 2002 he received an Honorary Degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico of Milan for his fundamental innovations in semiconductor technologies and IC design. Actually he is Scientific Advisor for some R&D centers in Italy, Swiss and France for different discipline like Life Sciences and Photovoltaic Systems.
