E\PCOS 2010, the European Symposium on Phase Change and Ovonic Science, organized by the Politecnico di Milano and Numonyx, now Micron, will take place at the Politecnico from September 6th to 7th, 2010.
The Symposium aims to discuss latest technology achievements and possible new application areas in a casual and private atmosphere and to provide fruitful interactions between opinion and technology leaders of the industry.
The first symposium on phase-change technology was held on September 27, 1990 in Iwate University, Japan under the name of PCOS. In 2001, under the sponsorship of PCOS, the first European Phase Change Symposium was successfully conducted in Switzerland. In 2003, during the 2nd European Phase Change Symposium, the E\PCOS Committee decided to extend the scope of the Symposium to Ovonic memory, because the phase change paradigm has an even higher potential for solid memory in the future.
E\PCOS 2010 will be opened by the Rector and a key-note speech of Stanford Ovshinsky, pioneer, already in the 60s, of use of chalcogenides as active layers of electronic memories.
