Project abstract
This project proposes architectures and protocols for the realization of ad hoc vehicular networks with particular reference to the intervehicular real-time traffic scenario. The defined protocols are the Medium Access Control protocol, which manages the time varying topology of the vehicular network, and the routing protocol, which is responsible of routing end-to-end traffic flows.
In the project, specific attention is paid to intervehicular telephony and system performance is evaluated. It is shown that it is economically feasible to extend the cell coverage of 3rd generation mobile systems (UMTS) by using the ad hoc technology. The project is closed.
