Shahnawaz is a Ph.D. Candidate of Information Technology enrolled in XXX cycle, under Erasmus Mundus - INTACT scholarship program, in the Department of Electronics, Information and Bio-engineering (DEIB) at Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi). He has received Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering from National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, NUCES-FAST Islamabad in 2011 (Under ICT scholarship program) and Master’s degree in Electrical (Digital Systems and Signal Processing) Engineering from NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Islamabad in 2014. His Master’s thesis was related to link deanonymization in social and instant messaging (IM) networks.
His PhD research revolves around the production of 3D personalized audio using binaural rendering using simple in ear headphones. During this research work he will also investigate different approaches to estimate HRTF in a more simpler, cheaper and efficient way. Possible application of this research are in source sound localizations for robotics, next generation audio systems, virtual reality systems like oculus rift, in 3D cinemas, in military training simulators etc.
His research interest includes Stochastic Signal Processing, Image and Sound Signal Processing, Biomedical imaging, Virtual reality systems, Machine learning and Computer Vision.
