Abstract
On May 26th, 2016 at 5.00 pm, CommTech Talks will take place at DEIB Conference Room.
Distributed applications perform their tasks through multiple communicating units, often relying on network services to transport data to the appropriate host.
Their service requirements are becoming ever more sophisticated, thus making the case for application-aware networking, in which their traffic is treated according to its actual needs. On the other hand, the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm, allowing application-defined control of the network infrastructure, is recently taking root. This combination gives us an unique chance to define novel network service abstractions that explicitly define the characteristics of the required service, and advanced strategies to deploy network configurations that fulfill these requirements. This talk will discuss application-* networking and how it enables new technological and product opportunities.
