Abstract
On March 17th, 2016 at 4.45 pm, CommTech Talks will take place at DEIB Conference Room.
This talk will deal with WiFi Engagement: where WiFi meets Big Data and Proximity Marketing.
In a world of pervasive cellular coverage, seamless roaming, enterprise and home wireless coverages, is still there a place for free public WiFi? Of course!
The bandwidth demand from mobile devices outgrows the capacity of cellular networks, thus imposing the need of offloading data traffic to cheaper and more performing wireless networks. Both private and public entities are building up WiFi networks to accomodate such a traffic flow; since such infrastructures represent a cost, there is the need to find a feasible business model that can support and sustain such networks and provide value to the whole ecosystem.
As in other INF/TLC areas, the new free WiFi business model points straight to big data and proximity marketing approaches, thus opening new markets and industrial verticals.
