Abstract
On February 3rd, 2016 from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm, a presentation on the opportunities for PhD students and Post-Doc will be held by prof. Bertrand Meyer, in DEIB Conference Room.
Prof. Meyer is an excellent scientist in research fields concerning programming languages, concurrence, distributed systems, software development environments.
He is one of the researchers which gave impetus to the object-oriented programming languages, developing his programming language called Eiffel. He worked in the university (he is currently Professor and head of Chair of Software Engineering at ETH Zurich) and also in the industry, even creating his own company, Eiffel Software.
Becoming Permanent Visiting Professor at DEIB, Prof. Meyer will give a contribution both to the research activities and to the teaching activities of the department.
Concerning the research activity, prof. Meyer will join the Software Engineering group, bringing his research on concurrent programming. That research is complementary to the Software Engineering group activities and is funded by an ERC Advanced Investigator Grant (2.5 M Euros, 2012-2017) that prof. Meyer will transfer in our department.
Concerning the teaching activity, prof. Meyer will bring his teaching experience both with traditional courses and with MOOC courses.
Prof. Meyer will also give lectures in a doctorate course on concurrence entitled "Concurrent object-oriented programming".
His work on different teaching ways will help us to improve the courses that we already provide.
Further information on prof. Meyer cv is available in the attached file.
